Spectrum Health

AMCON partnered with Spectrum Health Systems to transform the second floor of an existing commercial building in Lowell into a substance abuse treatment facility. The result is a calm, functional environment built to support patient care and staff operations, delivered while the rest of the building stayed up and running.

Scope of Work

AMCON completed a full second-floor interior fit-out, starting with extensive demolition and reconfiguration of the existing spaces to create the layout the facility needed. Our team coordinated MEP upgrades throughout the floor and handled rooftop equipment modifications to meet the facility’s operational requirements. The finished floor includes a commercial kitchen, a dining area with built-in banquette seating, a classroom-style training room, a lounge, and a staff kitchenette.

Challenges & Highlights

Renovating inside an occupied building means every decision has to account for the people around you. Demolition, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work, and rooftop modifications all had to be sequenced carefully so the building could keep operating while we worked. Turning an existing commercial space into a treatment facility also meant paying close attention to flow. Patient areas, staff areas, and support spaces each needed to work on their own and work together. AMCON has deep experience converting existing buildings into people-centered environments, and this project put that experience to good use. It is also part of our growing work with Spectrum Health Systems in Lowell, a community we are proud to support.

Results

The completed space is functional, welcoming, and easy to navigate, with clear circulation and building systems that work together behind the scenes. Soft blue-green and plum accents, warm wood doors, and natural light give the floor a comfortable, human feel. Through thoughtful planning and close coordination, AMCON delivered a renovation that supports the important work happening inside, all within an active building environment.
