Forging The Way

Meet Our leadership

Kayla Nassar
Chief Executive Officer

Kayla Nassar is CEO of AMCON, a WBE-certified, second-generation construction management firm. She leads the company with a willingness to question convention, embrace change, and think differently about what clients should expect from their construction partner. That mindset has shaped AMCON into the company it is today, one built around diverse perspectives, direct relationships, and teams empowered to solve problems and make decisions. For clients, it means a team willing to challenge assumptions, adapt when conditions change, and look beyond the expected answer to find the right one.

Construction has been part of Kayla’s life since childhood. Growing up in a construction family, she spent weekends and school vacations visiting jobsites with her father. But before joining the family business, she built her own foundation in the industry. While studying economics, Kayla interned with Shawmut Design and Construction and later joined its Construction Management Skills Training program, gaining experience across different areas of the business. Her early career exposed her to projects across luxury retail, education, healthcare, and other commercial markets, and gave her firsthand experience with the demands of different clients, project types, and environments.

Kayla eventually brought that experience back to her family’s construction company and worked across the business before becoming CEO. She has since led its evolution into AMCON, pairing the values of a family business with the capabilities, systems, and perspective of a modern construction management firm. Her approach to leadership is grounded in continuous learning and a belief that different experiences around the table lead to better questions, better decisions, and more options for clients.

Caroline Petrovick
Director of Construction

Caroline Petrovick is AMCON’s Director of Construction, bringing more than two decades of experience and a perspective shaped by working on three sides of the building process. She understands the intent behind the design, the pressures and priorities facing the owner, and what the construction team needs to execute successfully. At AMCON, she brings those perspectives together to lead project teams, strengthen construction operations, and solve difficult problems early, giving clients a construction partner who can see the project from more than one point of view.

That perspective comes from an unusual career path. Caroline began her career in architecture before moving to Harvard University, where she managed capital design and construction projects from the owner’s side. She then moved into construction management, spending eight years at Elaine Construction and progressing from Senior Project Manager to Project Executive and ultimately Director of its Academic Sector. In that role, she was responsible for project performance, financial requirements, and client relationships across Elaine’s academic work.

Her experience spans academic, corporate, and specialty markets, with particular depth in complex projects at institutions including MIT, Harvard, and Tufts. She has led both ground-up construction and occupied renovations, including work on MIT’s Hayden Library. Moving from architect to owner to construction manager taught Caroline to understand not only what each party needs, but where those needs intersect, a perspective she now brings to AMCON’s clients and project teams.

Mike O’Connell
Director of Northern New England

Mike O’Connell is AMCON’s Director of Northern New England, leading the company’s work and continued growth across New Hampshire, Maine, and the surrounding region. A New Hampshire resident with more than two decades in construction, Mike combines deep project experience, operations leadership, and an understanding of the local construction community. He approaches projects with a builder’s understanding of how the details come together and an operations leader’s view of the larger picture, helping clients make informed decisions and move their projects forward.

Mike’s career has taken him from managing individual projects to leading project teams, construction operations, and now a regional business. He spent seven years with Shawmut Design and Construction and eight years with Dellbrook | JKS, where he progressed from Project Manager to Senior Project Manager and then Project Executive. He later served as Vice President of Operations at New England Construction before joining AMCON in 2023.

Along the way, Mike has worked across sports arenas, multifamily residential, higher education, restaurants, laboratories, healthcare, senior living, and adaptive reuse. His experience includes preconstruction, ground-up construction, complex renovations, and large multifamily developments. That range has exposed him to different clients, project types, and ways of building, while his progression into operations leadership has given him a broader understanding of the business decisions behind successful construction.

Kirk Irons
Director of Purchasing

Kirk Irons is AMCON’s Director of Purchasing, bringing nearly two decades of construction experience and a career built around understanding what projects cost, what it takes to build them, and who is best equipped to do the work. He uses his knowledge of scope, cost, constructability, and the trade market to evaluate options, anticipate procurement challenges, and assemble the right team for each project. His approach looks beyond the number to consider capability, reliability, availability, cost, and what the work actually requires.

A Wentworth Institute of Technology graduate, Kirk began his career at Shawmut Design and Construction, where he gained experience in estimating, field supervision, and project management before focusing on estimating. That early movement between the office and field gave him experience with both how construction is priced and how estimating and procurement decisions play out once work begins.

Kirk spent the next eight years at CM&B, progressing from Estimator to Vice President of Estimating. He joined AMCON in 2020 as Director of Preconstruction, leading the work that turns a client’s plans and priorities into a clear path toward construction. In 2025, he became Director of Purchasing, bringing his preconstruction perspective, trade relationships, and years of market knowledge directly into trade partner selection and procurement.

Elena Crupi
Vice President of Finance and Administration

Elena Crupi is AMCON’s Vice President of Finance and Administration, bringing more than two decades of financial experience in commercial real estate and construction to the company’s leadership team. She works across the business on financial planning, forecasting, systems, and controls, making sure leaders have accurate information, understand the financial implications of decisions, and can act with confidence. Her perspective connects project performance with the financial health of the business, helping AMCON make sound decisions while maintaining the commitments it makes to clients.

Elena’s career began on the ownership side of commercial real estate. At Boston Properties, she managed accounting for a portfolio that included Class A office and retail space, parking garages, and a hotel. That early experience gave her a foundation in the financial side of owning and operating commercial real estate before she moved into construction.

She spent nearly 12 years at Shawmut Design and Construction, advancing through accounting and business finance roles to become Senior Manager of Business Finance. Her work spanned the firm’s sectors and geographic markets, with particular depth in retail, hospitality, and luxury residential projects in New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami. That experience connected financial strategy directly to construction operations and project performance across different markets and project types. Elena joined AMCON as Financial Controller in 2022 and became Vice President of Finance and Administration in 2026.
